Grandma’s Story

Cheers to those who've inspired me as an artist. Our personal stories can inspire others, providing strength amidst challenges. My grandmother exemplified this by working various jobs and starting her own business. Her resilience speaks volumes – never give up. Hold on to memories in your mind, memories held in time.

Portraits of My Beloved Grandma (14 photos)

My grandma attended art school in the 1940's, learning to paint scenery. With her beautiful vision for color and design, she defied stereotypes. Though she taught painting and dressed store windows, she also built a successful painting service in Detroit for over 30 years.

The memories of doing things with her shaped my life. In the late 80s, our family visited my working grandma in a Buick station wagon. She painted houses and invited me to help. I'm grateful for the valuable lessons she taught me.

Once, I called her at 2 in the afternoon, and she joked about the phone ringing during her show. She seemed happy. I love her, even when she's cranky.

I want my grandmother to be remembered even after she departs this life. Since she is nearing the end of her life, I feel the need to do this. I have to do certain things, regardless of whether I think I am capable or not. I pursue photography and writing, influenced by loved ones. My grandmother has inspired me to discover my purpose. I wish for her to have a longer life.

Grandma, at 93, keeps pushing forward with puzzles and a full life. Live your life fully while you still can. Enjoy the preciousness of life. Embrace happiness and cherish the people around you. I am loved by my family. To my amazing family, thank you for shaping me into the person I am. Grateful and proud to be your son.
